North Coast Water (NCW) operates as a Business Unit of the Clarence Valley Council (CVC) that was created in February 2004. Functions of NCW extend to the provision of bulk water supply the CVC and Coffs Harbour area and responsibility for the implementation of the Regional Water Supply Strategy.
Objectives of the strategy are the protection of the natural river systems through improved environmental flows and long term security for the Clarence Valley/Coffs Harbour region. In addition to the provision of major water supply infrastructure which is due for completion in 2009, the main focus is on achieving the vision of reducing the dependency on the natural river resources by becoming a more water wise community.
Key elements of this journey include the introduction of alternate water sources into the water cycle and fostering a cultural change aimed at raising awareness about the value of water and the important role it plays in our daily lives.
The Council is committed to a sustainable Clarence Valley and this web site is designed to highlight NCW’s contribution in delivering outcomes that secure the water needs of current and future generations.
The regional bulk water supply strategy has been developed by North Coast Water in partnership with the NSW State Government and the local community. The three major funding partners are the Department of Water and Energy, Clarence Valley Council/North Coast Water and Coffs Harbour City Council. Implementation of the strategy is being project managed by the Department of Commerce (formerly Department of Public Works and Services) on behalf of North Coast Water.”
